The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 48-year-old businessman, Emmanuel Okechuku Orjinze, who ingested 111 wraps of cocaine at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA) in Abuja. Orjinze, who claims to be a professional footballer in Europe, was arrested on May 21 while attempting to board an Air France flight to Paris.
According to NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, Orjinze excreted the cocaine pellets over three days after his arrest. The agency also busted a drug trafficking syndicate at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos, arresting four members and seizing 8kg of methamphetamine and 7.6kg of Loud, a synthetic strain of cannabis.
In a related development, NDLEA operatives at the NAHCO export shed of the Lagos airport arrested a freight agent, Sonubi Mariam Abiodun, for attempting to export eight parcels of cocaine concealed in paint buckets to the United Kingdom.
The agency also announced several other arrests and seizures across the country, including the recovery of 2,480 liters of skuchies, a mixture of black currant and illicit drugs, from a clandestine factory in Lagos, and the arrest of a person with a disability and notorious drug dealer, Zekere Sufianu, in Edo State.
NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Brig.-Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd), commended the officers and men of the agency for their efforts in the war against drug abuse and intensified advocacy lectures across the country.
