PDP responds to court ruling, recognizing Fubara’s faction as legitimate in Rivers State
DDM News

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially acknowledged the faction led by Hon. Nname Robinson Ewor as the legitimate state executive in Rivers State.
This decision follows a recent ruling by the Rivers State High Court, which invalidated the party’s congresses held in mid-2024 at the ward, local government, and state levels.
According to a statement released on Thursday by the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, Diaspora digital media (DDM) confirmed that the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party now officially supports Ewor’s leadership.
This decision aligns with Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s camp.
This marks a significant shift in the internal conflict within the party.
The ongoing power struggle between Governor Fubara and former Governor Nyesom Wike, now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has been a focal point for PDP.
Throughout 2024, PDP’s internal disputes had intensified.
Wike’s loyalists won the disputed congresses, while Fubara’s faction distanced itself, citing legal concerns over the process.
This division deepened the rift between the two groups and created tensions that affected the party’s unity in the state.
On January 13, 2025, a breakthrough came when Justice Stephen Jumbo issued an interlocutory injunction.
The ruling prevented the Wike-backed leadership, led by Aaron Chukwuemeka, from operating as the recognized party executives.
Instead, the court granted legitimacy to the faction led by Ewor, strengthening PDP’s direction in Rivers State under Fubara’s leadership.
The PDP’s National Working Committee expressed its support for the court’s decision.
They praised the judgment as a clear affirmation of the party’s commitment to transparency, democracy, and the rule of law.
The NWC urged all party stakeholders in Rivers State to fully cooperate with the newly recognized leadership.
They emphasized the importance of unity and progress for the party’s future in the state.
This ruling represents a pivotal moment in Rivers State’s political landscape.
It resolves a longstanding internal conflict within PDP and sets the stage for a restructured party leadership.
The PDP’s recognition of Ewor’s faction signals a new phase for the party in the state.
It holds the potential to heal deep divisions and restore unity.
As PDP moves forward under this new leadership, the party aims to strengthen its presence in Rivers State.
Despite the challenges of past disagreements and factional rivalries, the party is focused on rebuilding and progressing.
