Peter Obi visits victims of Suleja tanker explosion, calls for urgent safety measures

Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, visited Niger State on Wednesday, January 22, to express his condolences to the victims and families affected by the recent petrol tanker explosion along the Dikko-Maje Road in Suleja.

As earlier reported by Diaspora digital media (DDM), the tragic incident, which occurred recently, claimed the lives of over 100 people, left more than 50 injured, and caused significant property damage in the area.

During his visit, Peter Obi toured the explosion site, paying his respects at the graveyard where 80 victims were laid to rest.

He also visited the Sarkin Dikko palace and met with hospital patients who were injured in the explosion, offering them support and words of encouragement.

Peter Obi expressed deep sorrow over the incident and emphasized the need for urgent safety measures to prevent similar disasters in the future.

He called for immediate repairs to the affected roads, greater awareness for tanker operators, increased investment in healthcare, and the implementation of poverty alleviation programs to address underlying vulnerabilities.

“These recurring tragedies underscore the urgent need for governance that prioritizes the protection of human lives through proactive policies,” Obi stated.

He also extended his condolences to the Sarkin Dikko and the Dikko community, pledging his solidarity with the families who have lost loved ones.

“Human lives are invaluable, and governance must always prioritize their safety and protection through strategic actions,” Obi remarked.

He further stressed the importance of implementing measures that would prevent such catastrophes in the future.

Peter Obi reiterated that only with collective effort can such tragic incidents be eliminated, highlighting the need for leaders to build a safer environment for everyone.

He expressed hope that a collaborative approach could help make these kinds of devastating events a thing of the past.
