The Borno State Police Command has arrested five men accused of printing and wearing T-shirts bearing the inscription, “Tinubu Must Go,” in Maiduguri.
The men were identified as Baba Aji Gremami, 44; Mustapha Abba Yemen, 28; Abbacha Mohammed Ali, 32; Adam Umar Gubio, 21; and Abdulhamid Mohammed, 21.
According to a First Information Report dated September 29, 2026, the suspects were accused of criminal conspiracy, inciting disturbance, disturbance of public peace and thuggery.
The police alleged that the five men conspired to print the T-shirts with the intention of causing a breach of public peace around the West End Roundabout community in Maiduguri.
The alleged offences were said to contravene Sections 60, 78, 79 and 392 of the Borno State Penal Code.
The case originated from the State Criminal Investigation Department in Maiduguri and was addressed to the Chief Magistrate Court.
The police directed that the suspects be charged to court, while SaharaReporters reported that they were subsequently remanded in a correctional facility.
However, the report said it could not immediately establish the specific court proceedings or the terms of the remand order.
A source also alleged that the arrests followed a directive from Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, to the Commissioner of Police, Naziru Abdulmajid. The claim was not independently verified in the report.
The arrests come ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, with political activities already increasing across the country.
