ASABA, Nigeria — Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have dismantled a suspected phone theft syndicate in Asaba, recovering nine stolen Android mobile phones during an operation that led to the arrest of key suspects.
The police said the operation followed credible intelligence and sustained surveillance, which enabled officers to track members of the suspected criminal network believed to have been involved in a series of phone theft incidents within Asaba and surrounding communities.
According to the command, detectives apprehended the suspects during a coordinated raid and recovered nine Android smartphones suspected to have been stolen from victims. Preliminary investigations indicate that the syndicate specialized in stealing mobile phones before reselling them through illegal channels.
Police authorities said efforts are ongoing to identify the rightful owners of the recovered devices while investigators continue tracing other members of the gang who remain at large. The command added that additional arrests are expected as the investigation progresses.
The suspects are currently in police custody and are assisting investigators with information that could lead to the recovery of more stolen property and the dismantling of other criminal networks operating in the state.
The Delta State Police Command reiterated its commitment to tackling crimes such as theft, robbery and cyber-related offences through intelligence-driven policing. It urged residents to remain vigilant, safeguard their personal belongings and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
The command also encouraged victims of phone theft to provide relevant details, including device identification numbers and purchase records, to assist investigators in verifying ownership and facilitating the return of recovered phones.
Police assured the public that the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations, reaffirming their resolve to ensure that criminal elements are brought to justice while maintaining the safety and security of residents across Delta State.
