The Chairman of the Police Service Commission, retired Deputy Inspector General of Police Hashimu Argungu, has emphasized the need for improved intelligence gathering and cooperation among Nigeria’s security agencies.

A statement made available to Diaspora Digital Media, signed the Commission’s Head of Media, Ikechukwu Ani, indicates that Argungu made the call while receiving a delegation from the Alumni Association of the National Institute for Security Studies, led by its National President, Barr. Mike Ejiofor.

“We expect much from you, given your critical positions in relation to national security,” Argungu told the delegation. “Intelligence gathering is key to national development, and every security organization must function within its jurisdiction to avoid friction.”

He stressed that respecting jurisdictions and sharing intelligence is crucial for effective national security, noting that conflict relating to jurisdiction “will bring failure of intelligence.”

“What the nation expects from you is intelligence sharing and cooperation,” Argungu emphasized.

Argungu also highlighted the importance of quality training in the Institute and encouraged members to provide constructive feedback to security agencies.

“I charge you to pay close attention to our security agencies and tell them what they are doing wrong,” he said.

Barr. Ejiofor explained that the Alumni Association aims to foster synergy among security agencies and offer services to the government.

“Our association is formed to bring together graduates of the National Institute to further foster synergy among them and other strategic agencies of government towards ensuring national security and unity,” Ejiofor said.

The association plans to hold its annual lecture in November, and Ejiofor invited Argungu to attend.
