ABUJA, NIGERIA — Nigerian protocol practitioners have unveiled plans to establish a dedicated training institute aimed at enhancing professional standards and improving service delivery across public and private sectors.

The initiative was announced on Sunday, April 26, 2026, during a stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja, where industry leaders discussed the need for structured capacity building in protocol management.

According to organisers, the proposed institute will focus on equipping practitioners with modern skills, global best practices, and ethical standards required for effective protocol services.

They explained that the growing complexity of official engagements, diplomatic events, and corporate functions has increased the demand for highly trained protocol officers.

Stakeholders noted that many practitioners currently rely on informal training and on-the-job experience, which they say is no longer sufficient in a rapidly evolving professional landscape.

The proposed institute is expected to offer certification programmes, workshops, and continuous professional development courses tailored to meet international standards.

Industry experts at the event emphasized that formalising training will not only improve efficiency but also enhance Nigeria’s image in diplomatic and official engagements.

They added that well-trained protocol officers play a critical role in managing high-level events, ensuring order, and maintaining the integrity of official procedures.

Participants also highlighted the need for collaboration with government institutions, diplomatic missions, and private organisations to ensure the success of the initiative.

The training institute, once established, is expected to serve as a central hub for research, innovation, and professional excellence in protocol practice.

Observers say the move reflects a broader effort to professionalise sectors that have traditionally operated without standardized training frameworks.

Stakeholders expressed optimism that the initiative will create new opportunities for young professionals while raising the overall quality of service delivery in the field.

As planning progresses, the organisers say consultations will continue to refine the structure, curriculum, and operational model of the institute before its formal launch.
