Joshua Zirkzee, the 22-year-old Dutch-born striker, has expressed his desire to represent the Super Eagles of Nigeria, should he receive an invitation.

Currently, Zirkzee is pushing to break into the senior team of the Netherlands, but faces stiff competition from established players like Cody Gakpo, Memphis Depay, and Donyell Malen.

In a recent interview on Soccernews, Zirkzee revealed his willingness to don the green and white jersey of Nigeria, citing the country’s rich talent pool and competitive spirit. “Nigeria is not just a country you can choose lightly; the competition for attackers is just as fierce as in the Dutch national team,” he said.

Zirkzee acknowledged the presence of top-notch Nigerian strikers like Victor Osimhen, Victor Boniface, and Ademola Lookman, who are making waves in European football. “It’s not like I can’t think about it for a moment; the Netherlands isn’t calling, then I’ll choose Nigeria. Are they even pulling me? Maybe,” he added with a hint of uncertainty.

The young striker’s impressive form has earned him a spot in the Serie A Team of the Season 2023/24, alongside Osimhen, a testament to his potential and talent. As Zirkzee continues to make a name for himself in European football, the possibility of a Super Eagles call-up remains an intriguing prospect for Nigerian football fans.

With his Dutch heritage and Nigerian roots, Zirkzee’s decision to represent Nigeria would be a significant boost to the Super Eagles’ attacking options.

However, it remains to be seen if the Nigerian Football Federation will extend an invitation to the talented striker. One thing is certain, though – Joshua Zirkzee is a name to watch in the world of football, and his future decisions will be closely followed by fans and scouts alike.
