Restoring faith: misuse of God’s name for power and deception

Call for truth, justice, and love in religion and leadership

Published

on

Throughout history, people have invoked God’s name for faith, but also for deception, manipulation, and destruction. Political leaders, religious figures, and individuals have often twisted divine authority for personal gain. But what does God truly say about this?

The Biblical and Quranic Warnings Against Misusing God’s Name

The commandment on this matter is clear:

Bible:
“You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain.” – Exodus 20:7

Quran:
“And do not take the name of Allah in your oaths as an excuse for not doing good, fearing Allah, and making peace among people. And Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.” – Surah Al-Baqarah 2:224

God’s name should not be used for falsehood, war, or political advantage. The Quran further warns:

“O you who believe! Why do you say what you do not do? Most hateful it is with Allah that you say that which you do not do.” – Surah As-Saff 61:2-3

This aligns with Jesus Christ’s teachings against hypocrisy:

“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.” – Matthew 7:21

God’s True Command: Love and Righteousness

At the heart of God’s teachings is love. Love is the foundation of all commandments, yet many have twisted it for control and division.

Bible:
“Love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you.” – Matthew 5:44

Quran:
“And not equal are the good deed and the bad. Repel [evil] by that which is better; and thereupon the one whom between you and him is enmity will become as though he was a devoted friend.” – Surah Fussilat 41:34

If love were practiced as God intended, wars would not be fought in His name, and nations would not justify oppression with religion.

From Creation to Civilization: How Faith Became a Tool for Power

From the beginning, humanity recognized a divine force governing creation. Early civilizations worshipped a supreme being, understanding their dependence on Him.

But as time passed, people distorted this faith. The same God who said, “You shall not murder” (Exodus 20:13) is now cited in justifications for war and terror.

The Quran warns against this corruption:

“And do not corrupt in the land after its reform. That is best for you if you should be believers.” – Surah Al-A’raf 7:85

Instead of upholding truth, society debates morality based on convenience rather than divine law.

The Arrogance of Civilization: Science Without Morality

Humanity has advanced from primitive life to scientific breakthroughs. Technology reshaped the world, yet arrogance has grown. Instead of preserving the earth, people exploit it. Instead of using science for good, some create destruction.

Now, as their greed destroys the planet—climate change, war, and resource depletion—many seek to escape to space. But why? Because they seek power, not responsibility.

The world must shift from conquest to preservation.

A Call to World Leaders, Politicians, Clergy, and Families

To Politicians Worldwide

Leadership must serve the people, not enslave them. Using God’s name for war, greed, or corruption is deception.

Bible:
“When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.” – Proverbs 29:2

Quran:
“Indeed, Allah commands you to render trusts to whom they are due and when you judge between people to judge with justice.” – Surah An-Nisa 4:58

To Religious Leaders and Clergy

Faith should never be a business or tool for personal gain. Many religious institutions prioritize wealth over truth.

Bible:
“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut up the kingdom of heaven against men.” – Matthew 23:13

Quran:
“And there are among them those who distort the Book with their tongues so that you may think it is from the Book, but it is not from the Book.” – Surah Aal-E-Imran 3:78

To Families Worldwide

Families shape society. If homes are built on deceit, the world will reflect that. Parents must teach truth, love, and righteousness.

Bible:
“Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” – Proverbs 22:6

Hadith:
“The best among you are those who are best to their families.” – Tirmidhi 3895

To Nations That Reject God’s Mandate

Modern societies debate truths that were once unquestioned—morality, identity, and faith. While free thought is vital, rejecting divine principles leads to destruction.

Quran:
“Have they not traveled through the earth and seen how was the end of those before them? They were greater than them in strength and impression on the land, but Allah seized them for their sins.” – Surah Ghafir 40:21

Final Thought: Religion Is a Gift, Not a Weapon

Religion was never meant for power or control. It is a divine gift for guidance. Yet, humanity continues to misuse it, bringing suffering in God’s name.

The choice is ours. Will we uphold truth, or continue twisting it for selfish gain?
