ROSOWA champions safer streets in Abuja during UN Global road safety week

Under the bright Abuja sun, the Road Safety Officer Wives Association brought together concerned citizens and leaders to reimagine safer roads.

At Area 1 Park on May 15, 2025, mothers, transport workers, and activists united for a common cause during the UN Global Road Safety Week. Their message rang clear: every life matters on our streets.

Haj. Dr. Nafisa Shehu Mohammed, ROSOWA’s President, set the tone with a powerful call to action. “When we share roads responsibly, we protect our children, our traders, and our future,” she declared. The campaign’s theme, “Streets for Life,” resonated deeply as participants discussed practical ways to safeguard pedestrians and cyclists.

Community leaders lent their voices to the cause, including Madam Edna Azura of the National Council for Women Society. She stressed how women often bear the brunt of road tragedies when loved ones are lost.

Nearby, Madam Eunice Odeghe of the Female Drivers Association demonstrated proper mirror checks to young drivers, while NURTW’s Mr. Ishaya Mikasa pledged his union’s support for safer transport hubs.

Interactive sessions transformed the park into a classroom without walls. FRSC officers used vivid demonstrations to show stopping distances, while children practiced crossing imaginary streets safely. A cyclist shared his near-miss story, reminding everyone that small actions—like checking blind spots—save lives.
