Senate summons Law School DG over outrageous school fees

Senate has summoned the Director General of the Nigerian Law School, Olarenwaju Onadeko for charging N315,000.00 per student excluding a laptop computer which each student must buy.

Senate decision was followed to a motion sponsored by Senator Shehu Sani, who noted that a 30yr old prospective student committed suicide because he or any of his family members could not afford to pay the tuition fees.

He said if the astronomical increase ‎in the tuition fee of the Nigerian Law School is left unabated, the Nigerian child, in the future would not be able to afford legal education.

Senator Sani said,” The Nigerian Law School is becoming unaffordable to the children of down-trodden Nigerian masses due outrageous tuition fee of about Two hundred and Ninety Five Thousand, two hundred and Fifty Naira ( N295,250.00) for central registration and Twenty Thousand Naira (N20,000) as other charges levied on prospective students, excluding a laptop computer which each student must possess.”

Senate in its resolution urged the Federal government to increase funding to the Nigerian Law School.

‎Adding his voice, Senator Francis Alimikhena said “The Nigerian Law School is becoming a cash and carry Institution”.

Senate urged Federal Government to increase funding of the law schools adding that there is need to institute scholarship fund to support indigent students.
