Senator Omo-Agege reacts as Oborevwori joins APC
DDM News

Former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has finally broken his silence over the defection of his political rival, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to Diaspora digital media (DDM), Omo-Agege, who lost the 2023 governorship election to Oborevwori, has now directed all structures of the Delta APC to welcome the new members, including Oborevwori and his predecessor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa.
In a statement released on Sunday, Omo-Agege emphasized that the national leadership of the party was already taking the necessary steps to handle the political shifts in Delta State.
Before Oborevwori’s dramatic defection from the PDP to the APC last week, Omo-Agege was one of the strongest voices rejecting any alliances with the governor.
However, with Oborevwori’s move, analysts suggest that Omo-Agege’s position in the party has become precarious, especially as the governor has now assumed the de facto leadership of the Delta APC, a role that Omo-Agege had firmly held for years.
The defection has caused a significant shift in the state’s political landscape, with Oborevwori’s influence strengthening his chances in the 2027 governorship race.
Omo-Agege’s future political ambitions have been cast into uncertainty, with many speculating that the governorship ticket for 2027 might now slip away from his grasp.
Despite these challenges, Omo-Agege has called for unity within the Delta APC, stressing the importance of collaboration to ensure the party’s success in the state.
In his Sunday statement, he wrote: “The leadership of the Delta State chapter of the All Progressives Congress warmly welcomes His Excellency, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, and all other leaders and members of the Peoples Democratic Party into the APC.”
He described the defection as a significant endorsement of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, highlighting the success it has had in driving growth and development across the nation.
Omo-Agege assured all stakeholders that any issues arising from the political realignment would be handled with care and foresight, focusing on the best interests of the party and the state.
He went on to encourage all party members to embrace the new development with a spirit of unity and understanding.
“The leadership of our party has deliberated on this matter, and we are taking all necessary steps to ensure that the APC remains strong and united in Delta State,” Omo-Agege added.
He called for a collective commitment to the progress of Delta State and Nigeria as a whole, emphasizing that this was a time for all members to rally around the APC’s vision.
Omo-Agege also urged all APC ward and local government executives to mobilize their supporters for a grand reception rally scheduled for Monday, April 28, 2025, in Asaba.
The rally, he said, would mark the formal welcome of the new members into the APC, and it was crucial for party unity that all members show up in full force.
“In this renewed spirit of brotherhood in Delta APC, I urge all LGA and ward chairmen, their executives, party members, and our teeming supporters to turn out massively for the welcome reception,” he said.
Omo-Agege’s message closed with a reminder that while challenges may arise as a result of the shifting dynamics, the party would address them with wisdom and prudence.
The political realignment in Delta State has left many wondering how Omo-Agege and Oborevwori will navigate their new relationship within the APC, especially with the 2027 election looming.
As the dust settles, all eyes are on the party’s next steps in managing its internal dynamics and ensuring unity ahead of the next major electoral challenge.
