State task force boss faces criticism over numerous allegations in Nigeria

The Managing Director of Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (Ocha-Brigade), Mr. Celestine Anere, has emphasized that his agency will not yield to blackmail or false accusations aimed at tarnishing its reputation.
He stated that Ocha-Brigade operates within the laws that established the agency.
Anere his organisation have come under increasing attacks over allegations bordering on illegal detentions, confiscations, extortion, and unfair dismissals, stating that the organization has zero tolerance for corruption and indiscipline.
But Anere clarified that Ocha-Brigade is an enforcement agency that aims to maintain a clean and healthy environment in Anambra by addressing issues such as shanties, blocked drainage, street trading, and other violations.
He mentioned that some of his staff have suffered severe injuries and one even lost his sight due to attacks from individuals resisting enforcement actions.
Anere denied allegations of illegal detentions, confiscations, extortion, and unfair dismissals, stating that the organization has zero tolerance for corruption and indiscipline.
He highlighted efforts to instill punctuality and professionalism among staff while prioritizing their welfare.
Regarding a drug-related arrest in Onitsha, Anere confirmed the incident, stating that the drugs were confiscated and handed over to the authorities. (See confiscated goods as pictured).
He refuted claims of demanding a bribe for the woman’s release, emphasizing Ocha-Brigade’s commitment to integrity and fairness in its operations.
Anere also addressed the sealing of properties, emphasizing that warnings are issued before taking such actions to ensure public health and safety.
He mentioned the rescue of teenage girls from a baby factory and efforts to address illegal activities at Goodness and Mercy Park.
Despite facing opposition and negative publicity, Anere asserted that Ocha-Brigade remains steadfast in fulfilling its mission to create a clean and healthy environment in Anambra as envisioned by Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo.
