The renewed rivalry between Wizkid and Davido

Published

on

Ayodeji Balogun (Wizkid) and David Adeleke (Davido), two Nigerian musicians of global repute, have been involved in a long-standing feud for over a decade.

Despite past attempts at reconciliation, the two superstars have recently engaged in a heated exchange on social media, thus reigniting their rivalry.

The latest chapter in their ongoing feud began when Wizkid posted a viral video of Davido crying, accompanied by a message suggesting that fans should beg him for new music.

Davido responded by calling Wizkid a “sick man” and challenging him to release a solo track.

Wizkid retorted by labeling Davido “delusional” and boasting that he could retire today and still have more accomplishments than Davido.

Their feud has a history dating back to 2014 when Wizkid allegedly shaded Davido on Twitter, followed by Davido’s perceived retaliation on Snapchat in 2017.

The two artists have continued to exchange subtle jabs over the years, with brief periods of reconciliation.

In 2018, they shared the stage together, and in 2020, Davido attempted to collaborate with Wizkid on an album and tour, but it never materialized.

The rivalry between Wizkid and Davido is often fueled by their respective fan bases.

In a 2023 interview, Davido attributed most of the issues between them to the fans.

The ongoing feud has led to a divided fan base, with each side passionately defending their favorite artist.

Despite their personal differences, both Wizkid and Davido have significantly contributed to the global recognition and success of Afrobeats.

Their rivalry has, in some ways, pushed the genre forward, with each artist striving to outdo the other in terms of creativity and innovation.
