President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on Nigerian soldiers to intensify the fight against terrorism, insurgency, and banditry.

He made this call during a two-day official visit to Katsina State, where he addressed troops of the 17 Brigade of the Nigerian Army.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) reports that the visit is happening at a time when Nigeria’s security situation remains dire, with widespread attacks continuing across the country.

The President, addressing the troops on Friday, said this was a “defining moment” in the nation’s history.

He emphasized that the military must rise to the occasion and bring an end to the prolonged security threats.

He acknowledged the persistence of terrorism, banditry, and insurgency, saying the threats have lingered for too long.

“Nigerians are counting on us and you to end this menace and reclaim every inch of our territory,” Tinubu stated.

In a show of solidarity, Tinubu asked the soldiers if they were ready to defeat insecurity, encouraging them to let their resolve echo through “every valley and forest.”

He declared that the battle was not just about land but about the very future and soul of the nation.

The President praised their resilience and bravery, stating that their efforts inspire the entire country.

He reassured the troops that their sacrifices would not be forgotten and promised to support them with more than just words.

“This war will not be won by weapons alone but by your will to stand, resist, fight, and triumph,” he declared.

He promised to match their courage with real investments in their welfare and operational needs.

Tinubu assured that housing, healthcare, better pay, and support for soldiers’ families were being implemented as top priorities.

“As your President, I will match your courage with action, investment, and unwavering support,” he said.

He warned enemies of Nigeria both local and foreign that the country would never bow to fear or terror.

“To those who seek to destabilise our nation hear this: Nigeria will not bow. Not to fear. Not to terror. Not to treachery,” Tinubu vowed.

Meanwhile, the Anglican Bishop of Umuahia, Rt. Rev. Geoffrey Ibeabuchi, gave a grim evaluation of the national security crisis.

Speaking at the 2nd Session of the Church’s 11th Synod held at St. Stephen’s Cathedral, Umuahia, he warned that “no place in Nigeria is safe.”

His remarks were made in light of recent attacks by suspected herdsmen in Plateau, Benue, and Enugu states.

Bassa and Bokkos in Plateau, Ukum and Agatu in Benue, and Uzo-Uwani in Enugu have all witnessed deadly violence.

These attacks have led to the displacement of countless villagers and contributed to the growing number of internally displaced persons (IDPs).

The Bishop criticized the continued infiltration of illegal arms and the extortion of Nigerians at security checkpoints.

He expressed deep concern over the ability of terrorists to target even military barracks, which should be secure.

“Drastic and urgent actions by security agencies should be taken to halt the rise of new terrorist groups in Nigeria,” he said.

He also made a strong appeal to President Tinubu to release IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu.

According to Ibeabuchi, releasing Kanu could help unmask those exploiting his name to commit crimes in the South East.

The Bishop also used the platform to speak on the country’s economic hardship and increasing poverty.

He said hunger and inflation were worsening the situation for ordinary Nigerians and called on the government to take action.

The Bishop, however, commended Abia State Governor Alex Otti for his performance in office.

He urged the governor to avoid praise-singers and remain focused on delivering real change.

As Nigeria grapples with rising insecurity and growing public frustration, voices from the pulpit and the presidency are sending different yet urgent messages.

While Tinubu projects strength and defiance, Bishop Ibeabuchi paints a picture of a nation on the edge.

The stark contrast in tone reflects the deep divisions in public confidence and the uncertain road ahead for Nigeria’s stability.
