Former Guardiola’s Assistant favourite to become Super Eagles manager

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF ) seems keen to appoint a new coach before the month of April runs out, with a former assistant to Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, being a favourite for the coveted job.
Several foreign coaches have indicated interest in the vacant job.
Diaspora Digital Media can confirm that the NFF has so far received about 200 applications.
Following a thorough screening of these applications by the Federation’s technical committee, DDM understands that Guardiola’s protege, Domenec Torrent and Portuguese coach, Antonio Conceicao, are favourites to land the job.
Sources say the NFF hierarchy has been in regular contact with Torrent, more than other candidates on the list.
About Torrent
The 61-year-old, who boasts a robust CV from managing club sides across Europe and South America, is reported to be the favourite of the pair.
The report also highlights that members of the NFF technical committee believe his wealth of experience, having worked closely with Guardiola for over 11 years, counts as an additional advantage for him to land the Super Eagles role.
The report concludes by stressing that the former Manchester City assistant coach has been paying keen attention to the Super Eagles’ run of fixtures and closely monitored the games against Ghana and Mali, as well as continuing to devise plans on how to ensure Nigeria secures victories in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification series slated for June.
