Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, is sounding the alarm over a disturbing Boko Haram attack in Mafa, where the terrorists reportedly used drones against Nigerian troops.
Zulum, who visited the town on Friday, expressed shock that despite having credible intelligence about the impending attack, it still succeeded.
The governor pointed fingers at possible internal sabotage, stating: “I believe there might be sabotage within that has to be identified and addressed. We don’t have to blame each other; we have to come together and resolve this situation.”
He called for a united effort from state and federal governments, as well as the military, to identify and fix security gaps.
Zulum is particularly worried about Boko Haram’s use of drones, saying: “This is frightening. The proliferation of drones, particularly in the hands of non-state actors, is of great concern for the entire country.”
He urged the Federal Government to urgently review and reinforce Nigeria’s air defence systems, strengthening borders and airspace security.
The governor commended the Nigerian Armed Forces for their bravery and encouraged residents to support security operations by reporting suspicious activities.
“We are here to commiserate with the victims and build the confidence of our people,” he said.
