Trump Returns to Supreme Court Over Birthright Citizenship

United States President Donald Trump says he will ask the Supreme Court to reconsider its recent ruling rejecting his attempt to restrict birthright citizenship, describing the decision as “wrong” and warning it could have far-reaching consequences for the country.

Trump made the announcement in a post on his Truth Social platform while returning from the NATO summit in Turkey.

“The Supreme Court’s ruling is wrong. I will be asking for a rehearing by the United States Supreme Court immediately,” he wrote.

He further described the judgment as “a miscarriage of justice” and claimed it would “destroy America” if it is not reversed.

Under US Supreme Court rules, petitions for a rehearing must be filed within 25 days of a decision, although such requests are rarely granted.

The move follows the court’s June 30 ruling, which rejected Trump’s effort to limit birthright citizenship, dealing a setback to one of the key immigration policies of his administration.

Birthright citizenship, which grants automatic US citizenship to nearly everyone born on American soil, is protected under the 14th Amendment to the US Constitution and has remained a long-standing feature of American immigration law.
