Uncommon Explosion Shakes Ibadan, Leaves Casualties and Many feared Dead

At around 8pm on Tuesday, January 16, there was an uncommon explosion in Ibadan and it’s immediate environs. The incident is said to have claimed many lives and left many casualties.

According to a tweet by the Oyo State Police Command, they were still undergoing investigations of the cause of the explosion and the extent of damages to the community.

Many netizens responding to the News tweeted by former Presidential Aide Reno Omokri, claimed the explosion was man-made, which was caused by gas explosion from a gas station. But DiasporaDigitalMedia gathered from a reliable source that the explosion in Bodija, was caused by a propane tank explosion from Housing Coop petrol station.

However, the Honourable Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, has made a Press Statement by the state government which reads:

Residents of Ibadan and immediate environ experienced an uncommon explosion about 8pm this evening.

There are various interpretations of the incident but it is important for us to state categorically that the state government has taken over and in the full control of the unfortunate occurrence in in order to mitigate the incident.

All security service chiefs including para military chiefs and Fire Operatives have been deployed by the governor to Reign in the spillover from the explosion.

His Excellency Governor Seyi Makinde therefore implores citizens to calm down and be rest assured that their interests are being looked after.
