A tragic and deeply disturbing incident has left many in shock after a 17-year-old boy, identified as Thompson, was reportedly killed by individuals who were once part of his circle.

According to reports, the suspects 23-year-old Elijah Emmanuel and 21-year-old Tony Ogenata allegedly lured the teenager to their apartment under false pretenses. What followed was a calculated act of violence, as the young boy was strangled and his body later disposed of in a canal in the Ibeju-Lekki area.

In a chilling twist, the suspects proceeded to contact the victim’s family, demanding a ransom of ₦150 million. Despite receiving ₦200,000, their plan unraveled when law enforcement authorities tracked and arrested them in Ikorodu.

The victim was said to have been returning from writing his UTME exam when he was intercepted turning what should have been a hopeful step toward his future into a devastating end.

During interrogation, the suspects reportedly gave emotional yet unsettling explanations for their actions. One claimed he intended to use the money to build a house for his father in Delta State, describing him as a firewood seller struggling to make ends meet. He also mentioned plans to support his sister by opening a hairdressing business for her.

The other suspect reportedly said his goal was to lift his mother out of poverty and stop her from selling fufu for a living.

While these statements have sparked conversations online, many have pointed out the disturbing contradiction between their claimed intentions and the violent act they carried out. What they described as dreams of helping their families has instead resulted in the loss of an innocent life and irreversible consequences for everyone involved.

The case has reignited concerns about rising cases of youth involvement in violent crimes, as well as the growing desperation tied to economic hardship. It also raises difficult questions about values, choices, and the dangerous paths some young people are taking in pursuit of financial escape.
