One of Nigeria’s oldest teacher training school, National Teachers’ Institute, NTI, is withholding certificates of some of its students who are already embedded in the teaching corps in north central state, Kwara, it has been learnt.

The affected former students had degree programs in the school.

Though officially domiciled in Kaduna state, NTI has study centers across the country, Kwara included.

The NTI degree holders who graduated from NTl, Kaduna, Kwara Centre, have appealed to the Institute for the issuance of their certificates.

The graduates, most of whom are Teachers in various Secondary Schools in various parts of the state and beyond made the call in an interview with a news service in llorin.

One of the graduates who read English , Mrs Rabiat Sideeq, while narrating their ordeal said the institute is yet to issue them their degree certificates since 2019 when they graduated from it.

She said that all efforts to obtain their degree certificates which the institute claimed to be issued by the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) proved futile.

“Our employees are now rejecting the statement of degree results issued to us by the NTl since 2019, claiming that the certificates must be ready before mow, ” Sideeq said.

She said that they got admission through NTI which was affiliated to NOUN and had completed the programme five years ago but only received a statement of result from NOUN.

Sideeq said, ”We have been clamouring for when to get the original certificates because we are workrts and there is a limit to the number of years we can use the statement of results.

“We are pleading to the management of NOUN and NTI to release our results this year.”
Another graduate who holds a .B.sc in Physical and Health Education, Mrs Shuaibat Surajudeen, said.

“We have finished our programmes in 2019 and we have not received either the statements of result or the certificates.

In the same vein, Surajudeen called on the management of NOUN to release their certificates, saying that some of the students need the certificates for promotion, new employment among others.

“We are pleading to the NTI to let us know where we are and how we are going to get our results,” she added.
In his reaction, the Director and Chief Executive of NTI, Prof. Musa Garba-Maitasir said,

“We are still investigating the identity of Mrs Rabiat Sideeq, one of the graduates because we could not find her name on our register, either as a student or staff member.

” If she has other details that will help the Institute identify her, please we are waiting.

“For Shuaibat Surajudeen, who graduated in 2019, Bsc.ed Physical and Health Education, NTI , in affiliation with University of Maiduguri, their results and notifications are ready for the 2019 set.

“They should check their results at the NTI Kwara Office, follow the proper procedure and collect their results.”
