2027: Ohanaeze Youths Roast Amaechi, Call Him ‘Shameless Hypocrite’

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide has fired back at former Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi, over his scathing criticism of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, and other political leaders.
Diaspora Digital Media learnt that during a recent appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Amaechi accused Yakubu of blocking the registration of new political parties and described him as “shameless,” likening him to former INEC boss Prof Maurice Iwu.
Amaechi didn’t stop there he also took aim at former President Goodluck Jonathan, accusing him of attempting to derail Nigeria’s power rotation principle, known as zoning.
But in a fiery rebuttal on Friday, July 4, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, National President of the Ohanaeze Youth Council, said Amaechi’s criticisms were “baseless” and reeked of political bitterness.
He questioned the former minister’s moral standing to attack Yakubu or President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, given Amaechi’s own political history.
“Amaechi and others like him should hide their faces in shame. They have brought nothing but calamity to Nigeria,” Okwu said.
Okwu strongly defended INEC Chairman Yakubu, citing the commission’s performance in the 2023 general elections as one of the most transparent in Nigeria’s recent history.
He reminded Nigerians that sitting governors lost elections, a scenario rarely seen in the past.
“Under Prof Yakubu, many powerful incumbents lost elections, and most results were upheld by courts. That’s progress,” he said.
He accused Amaechi of being disgruntled because his preferred candidate, Atiku Abubakar, lost the presidential race.
“How else does he define performance by whether Atiku wins?” Okwu asked pointedly.
On Amaechi’s rumored 2027 presidential ambition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), the Ohanaeze Youth President didn’t hold back.
“This is the same man who claimed to oppose Jonathan over zoning, yet he now wants to succeed Tinubu both from the South-South. Where is the equity in that?”
Okwu described Amaechi as a “desperado” whose only real agenda is to satisfy his personal ambition.
“One day he calls himself Igbo, the next day he says it was just politics. He is not to be trusted.”
He called on the ADC and other opposition parties to be wary of Amaechi’s involvement, warning that his presence could undermine the credibility of any coalition.
“The South-East is the only southern region yet to produce a president since 1999. If Amaechi truly believes in justice, why not support an Igbo candidate?”
The Youth Council urged Nigerians to reject what it called “Amaechi’s recycled rhetoric,” stating that the country had outgrown “politics of deception and personal vendettas.”
“We say enough is enough. Amaechi should go home and retire from politics. Nigerians deserve better.”
