How only 53 Abia youths applied for 200 Army recruitment slots

Only 53 Abia youths applied for 200 Army recruitment slots, revealing a concerning trend in the region’s participation in the Nigerian Army recruitment process.

Brigadier General Chima Ekeator, team leader of the 2025 Nigerian Army Recruitment Awareness Team, highlighted this issue during a visit to Governor Alex Otti in Umuahia.

The Nigerian Army observed that Southeastern states, including Abia, were barely taking up allocated slots during recruitment exercises.

This underrepresentation prompted the awareness team to engage with youths, traditional rulers, and mayors through town hall meetings to encourage participation.

Governor Otti assured that his administration would establish a structure to regularly sensitize Abia youths within the eligible age bracket, ensuring they seize the opportunity to join the Nigerian Army.

He commended the Army’s professionalism and commitment to national security.

This low turnout is not unique to Abia, as other Southeastern states face similar challenges. The Nigerian Army’s efforts to increase awareness and encourage applications from the region aim to address this imbalance.
