Supreme Court Upholds Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule’s Election Victory

Published

on

The Supreme Court has unequivocally affirmed the election victory of Nasarawa State governor, Abdullahi Sule.

The journey to this verdict began when the State Election Petitions Tribunal initially nullified the governor’s victory, proclaiming his challenger, David Ombugadu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as the rightful winner of the March 18, 2023, governorship election.

However, the Appeal Court later reinstated Governor Sule, contending that the Tribunal erred in relying on the evidence of eight PDP witnesses, as their statements on oath were not front-loaded alongside the petition.

In the latest twist to this electoral saga, the Supreme Court, through a verdict delivered by Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, declared that the appeal presented by the PDP candidate, David Ombugadu, lacked merit.

This Supreme Court decision solidifies the legitimacy of Abdullahi Sule’s governance, concluding a contentious chapter in the post-election legal battles.
