Governors, not only President Tinubu, should be blamed over suffering in Nigeria, says religious activist

Ultra-Islamist activist, Ishaq Akintola, leader of the Muslim Rights Concern, MURIC, has asked Nigerians to not solely blame the Federal Government for economic hardships but also demand explanations from state governors in the country regarding the utilization of relief funds made available to them.

MURIC was an active campaigner for current government in power despite its choice of same faith ticket in multi-religious Nigeria.

President Bola Tinubu, beneficiary of the support, has come under intense criticism of his policies on account of the rising cost of living.

But Akintola has emphasized the need for transparency and accountability from all levels of government in addressing the current economic challenges faced by the citizens.

MURIC urges Nigerians to question their governors about the allocation and expenditure of resources, including the recent N30 billion relief funds received from the Federal Government.

MURIC also highlights the importance of state governors utilizing additional funds from subsidy withdrawals to alleviate the suffering of the people in their respective states.

The group however commended the efforts of certain governors in the country, particularly mentioning the governors of Borno and Lagos states, for their initiatives in providing support and relief to their citizens.

The group acknowledges the steps taken by the Federal Government to address the economic challenges, such as agricultural initiatives, increased allocations to state governments, and the distribution of grains and tractors to farmers.

“It is important that state governors demonstrating equal concern for the welfare of the people and providing additional palliatives to alleviate the current hardships being experienced across the country,” said Akintola.

The group encourages citizens to hold their elected leaders accountable and to focus on collective efforts to address economic challenges rather than solely relying on the Federal Government.
