The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), FCT Command, says it has deployed 3,000 men and personnel to heighten security within the territory during the Eid-el-Fitr celebration.

The FCT Commandant, Mr. Mathias Ohiemi, on Wednesday in a statement signed by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr David Akinbinu, said that the large number deployment was due to the increased crime rate in the territory.

Ohiemi said that the men and personnel deployed were well trained officers on security, and had been deployed to strategic areas in the FCT to enhance security in such areas and provide information where and when needed.

“It is no gain saying that the crime rate in the entire nation is on the rise. It is therefore the responsibility of security agencies to improve on security strategies, so as to checkmate the activities of criminals and hoodlums in the city,” he said.

The commandant assured residents of selfless discharge of duty by the officers and men, in order to keep the people and the territory secured.

He further urged citizens to go about their duties and businesses, ensuring total compliance to rules and regulations; obeying traffic rules and living in peace and harmony.

Ohiemi further called on the general public to work hand-in-hand with the NSCDC and other security agencies by providing necessary information that would help ease the discharge of their duties.

“Security is everyone’s business, as I urge all Muslim brothers and sisters a peaceful Eid-el-Fitr celebration,” he added. (NAN)
