A warrant officer of the Nigerian Navy, identified as WO Yusuf M.O., has reportedly died following an alleged disciplinary punishment at a naval medical facility in Lagos State.

The incident was said to have occurred at the Nigerian Navy Sick Bay located in Gowon Estate, Ipaja, within Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos.

According to sources familiar with the matter, the officer was absent from duty on May 19, 2026, and resumed work the following day. Upon her return, she was reportedly questioned by her superior officer, identified as Lt. Commander S.T. Abashim, over her absence.

Sources alleged that WO Yusuf explained she had been experiencing health complications and needed medical attention. She reportedly informed her superior that she was still feeling unwell at the time of reporting for duty.

However, the explanation was allegedly rejected, and she was reportedly ordered to carry out additional labour duties under intense weather conditions as punishment.

Witnesses claimed that while performing the assigned tasks, the officer began showing signs of physical distress, including dizziness and blurred vision, before appearing close to collapsing.

It was further alleged that instead of receiving immediate medical treatment, she was confined to one of the wards within the facility without urgent medical intervention.

Sources said the officer remained in that condition for about an hour before she was later confirmed dead.

The incident has reportedly attracted attention within the barracks, with senior officers said to be reviewing the circumstances surrounding the officer’s death, particularly allegations of negligence and failure to respond to health concerns.
