ABUJA, NIGERIA – Inspector-General of Police, Disu, has pledged stronger police protection for critical national infrastructure projects following a visit to the Federal Ministry of Works.
The visit formed part of efforts to strengthen collaboration between security agencies and government institutions responsible for executing strategic development projects across the country.
During discussions with officials of the ministry, the police chief assured authorities of adequate security support for projects considered vital to national development and economic growth.
He emphasized the importance of protecting public infrastructure from criminal activities, vandalism, and other threats capable of disrupting implementation and increasing project costs.
Focus On Critical Infrastructure
The Inspector-General noted that major infrastructure projects remain essential to economic development, transportation improvement, and national productivity.
He explained that security agencies must play an active role in ensuring that construction activities proceed without interruption.
Projects expected to receive enhanced attention include major road networks and other strategic facilities considered critical to national development plans.
Among the projects mentioned during the discussions was the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway project, which has continued to attract national attention due to its scale and expected economic impact.
Authorities say such projects require adequate security arrangements because of their strategic importance and the volume of resources involved.
Partnership Between Security And Development Agencies
The police chief also stressed the need for stronger coordination between law enforcement institutions and ministries responsible for infrastructure implementation.
He stated that collaborative efforts would help prevent security challenges capable of delaying construction schedules or affecting project delivery.
Officials further noted that a secure environment remains necessary for contractors, engineers, and workers carrying out activities at project sites nationwide.
Commitment To National Development
Government stakeholders described the engagement as a positive step toward ensuring uninterrupted execution of infrastructure projects.
They explained that adequate security protection can encourage investment, improve public confidence, and support the overall development agenda of the country.
Analysts say security concerns around public projects have become increasingly important due to incidents involving vandalism, theft of construction materials, and attacks on public assets in some parts of Nigeria.
Looking Ahead
Observers believe stronger collaboration between security agencies and infrastructure institutions could improve project implementation and reduce operational challenges.
The police leadership has also reiterated its commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at safeguarding national assets and promoting public safety across the country.
