Programme (CDP) opened on Monday 17 August 2015 in Abuja, Nigeria.

Participants in this meeting were drawn mainly from the ECOWAS Commission, the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA), the ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development (EBID) and the West African Development Bank (BOAD).

For three days, they will consider a number of actions focusing particularly on preparations for a donor conference and roundtable on CDP financing.

Leading up to the holding of the two events, an organising committee comprising members of the resource mobilisation committee for the development of awareness strategies for CDP financing, extended to the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), the Project Preparation and Development Unit (PPDU), the West African Power Pool (WAPP) and Côte d’Ivoire (host country) was set up in February 2015.

At the opening of the meeting, the ECOWAS Commissioner for Macroeconomic Policy and Economic Research, Dr. El Ibrahim Bocar Ba, represented by the CDP Coordinator, Dr. Yao Guevera, reiterated the meeting’s main objective, which was the development of awareness strategies for financial and technical partners, as well as private regional and international foundations and investors.

According to him, the meeting will lead to the revision and finalisation of the conference and roundtable’s presentation documents, mapping of technical and financial partners as well as private foundations and investors, development of awareness tour programme, definition of an implementing approach for each type of stakeholders as well as the validation of the communication strategy to ensure greater visibility of the CDP.

It is important to note that in July 2014, at its 45th session held in Accra, Ghana, the Authority of ECOWAS Heads of State and Government directed the Commission to take all the necessary measures to mobilise resources for CDP financing.
