Senate President Bukola Saraki has asked the senate committee on ethics, privileges and public petitions to look into a petition against Danladi Umar, chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT).
PDP senator from Ebonyi state, Senator Obinna Ogba had submitted the petition bordering on alleged corruption and abuse of office, at plenary on Thursday on behalf of anti-corruption network.
Umar is being accused of illegally demanding N10 million from one Taiwo Rasheed, a retired comptroller of customs.
Rasheed, who was tried at the tribunal for allegedly failing to declare his assets while in office, was said to have paid N1.8 million into the account of Ali Gambo, Umar’s personal assistant.
The ethics committee is expected to tender its report to the senate in two weeks.
Saraki is currently facing a 13-count charge of alleged false asset declaration and corruption at the CCT.
It would be recalled that similar petition was submitted in the House of Representatives against CCT chairman.
