Unrest Continues As Teenager Killed During Kenya’s Anti-Tax Protest Is Buried

A somber mood engulfed a Nairobi mosque on Friday as friends and family gathered to bid farewell to 19-year-old Ibrahim Kamau, who was fatally shot during a protest against the government’s proposed tax bill on Tuesday.

The funeral procession wound its way through the streets of Nairobi, with mourners paying their respects and carrying the coffin to its final resting place at the Kariakor cemetery.

The protest, which turned violent, resulted in the deaths of at least 22 people, with police firing tear gas to disperse the crowds.

Despite President William Ruto’s decision to withdraw the controversial tax legislation, protesters remain skeptical and continued to gather on Thursday, demanding more action from the government.

The proposed tax bill had sparked widespread outrage, particularly among young Kenyans, who feel the burden of rising living costs.

The government’s decision to withdraw the bill has done little to quell the anger, with protesters demanding more concrete action to address the country’s economic woes.
