Sharia police also known as Hisbah Board has announced a ban on the downloading and distribution of movies through mobile phones across the state’s 44 local government areas, citing the need to uphold public morality and Islamic principles.

The directive was disclosed on Thursday in a WhatsApp message issued by the Deputy Commander-General of the board, Dr. Mujahid Aminuddeen.

“The Hisbah board has banned downloading and distribution of movies through mobile phones across the 44 local government areas in the state,” he said.

Aminuddeen explained that the action followed complaints that some operators engaged in the business were distributing pornographic films and other video materials regarded as offensive to Islamic teachings and the cultural traditions of Kano State.

He disclosed that Hisbah operatives had already been mobilised to ensure strict enforcement of the directive and monitor compliance across the state.

“The board has deployed its personnel to monitor compliance through routine patrols and enforcement operations across the state.

“Anyone found violating the directive will face legal action in accordance with the laws of Kano State,” the Deputy Commander said.

He advised individuals affected by the ban to explore other legitimate sources of livelihood, stressing that the measure was introduced to shield young people from harmful content and safeguard the moral values of society.

According to Aminuddeen, the increasing level of moral decline among youths is largely associated with the consumption of indecent films and video materials.
