Families In Kenya Search For Missing Loved Ones After Protests

Published

on

Tabitha Wanjiru Kairo and her husband David Kairo are desperately searching for their 28-year-old son, Joseph Mwangi, who went missing during recent anti-government protests in Nairobi, Kenya.

Joseph, a street vendor, had dreams of becoming a police officer or soldier. His mother believes he was taken by the government and is pleading for his release.

The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights reports 41 deaths, 35 abductions, and 746 arrests related to the protests against the finance bill.

President William Ruto has apologized for the “arrogance and show of opulence” by legislators and promised action against “rogue” police officers who shot at unarmed civilians.

Families like the Kairo’s are searching for their loved ones in police stations, hospitals, and morgues, hoping to find them alive or dead.

The government is under pressure to release those abducted and arrested during the protests.

The unrest has left many families in a state of uncertainty, seeking answers and justice for their missing relatives.

The protests, which lasted for two weeks, saw the storming of Parliament and clashes between protesters and police.

The government has been criticized for its handling of the protests, with allegations of police brutality and forced disappearances.

The government’s response to the crisis has been criticized, and international attention is focused on Kenya’s human rights situation.
