Kaduna, Nigeria – April 22, 2025 – In a landmark achievement for gender inclusion and equality, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has officially absorbed its first cohort of Ex-Junior Air Women (Ex-JAWs) into its ranks as Airwomen.
This important policy extension, announced through the NAF’s official X (Twitter) account, marks a pivotal moment for the service.
It expands opportunities for women in the military, empowering them to take on various crucial roles.
Previously exclusive to graduates of the Air Force Military School (AFMS), the Absorption Policy has now been revised.
It now includes female graduates from the Air Force Girls’ Military School (AFGMS), broadening its impact.
This development opens new pathways for young women aspiring to serve as Non-Commissioned Officers within the NAF.
The inaugural group of Airwomen consists of members from the AFGMS Class of 2017, who graduated in August 2023.
Following a rigorous selection process, these women successfully completed their military training at NAF Base, Kaduna, as part of the 2024 recruitment cycle.
Their induction into the NAF symbolizes a progressive step towards gender equality within the armed forces.
Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, heralded the occasion as a momentous triumph for aspiring female military personnel.
“This is a moment of triumph for every girl who has ever dreamed of wearing the uniform.
“It clearly demonstrates the Air Force’s dedication to empowering young women and ensuring equal opportunities for everyone,” he stated.
This policy revision not only facilitates military service for Ex-JAWs but also significantly enhances their educational and professional development.

The newly inducted Airwomen showcase discipline and leadership skills honed at AFGMS, contributing effectively to the NAF and the nation.
Over the past 39 years, AFGMS has graduated more than 3,500 individuals excelling in the Armed Forces, government, academia, and corporate sectors.
