Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, was sighted in London for the Annual Conference of University of Nigeria Alumni Association, UK Foundation, where he is scheduled to deliver the Keynote Speech.
Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) London correspondent reported that Mr. Obi, in his usual characteristics shocked everyone.
He stated: “We took last minute decision to go by public transport instead of private vehicle.
“When Mr. Peter Obi checked the rail prices, he screamed. The prices were on the high side.
“Booking the train tickets earlier would have reduced the cost. But it was late.
“The only option would be to pay the high fares and move on.”
The former Anambra State Governor, however, would not have any of that. He sought a cheaper alternative.
Peter Obi’s thriftiness pays off
He narrated: “I accepted the fate! But Obi did not. “These prices are beyond our budget; we must find a way to get a discount” he said.
“”Let’s go to the train station, hopefully we will find a Nigerian who will help us get the tickets at cheaper prices”.
“We then headed to Paddington Station where, on arrival, and true to Obi’s words, we met a Nigerian, bursting in excitement of seeing Mr. Peter Obi.
“He gladly offered to help us book the tickets at cheaper prices, and he did.”
Talking to Peter Obi, said: “I had never met you Sir, but I have always followed you.
“I believe you are telling Nigerians the truth. You are the hope of a better Nigeria.”
Why I am frugal
As the entourage left to board the train, Obi told the little audience something remarkable.
He explained why he insisted on getting a discount on the tickets.
He said: “The question is not whether I can afford the tickets or not.
“The question is what I can achieve with the saved funds. We have hospitals that lack equipment.
“There are many schools in Nigeria that need urgent financial support.
“The more I save every penny at my disposal, the more I am able to reach out to more schools and hospitals.
“These are the critical contributors to our national development, and I remain committed to their development,” Obi explained.
Meanwhile, the team has arrived in Birmingham for the main event of the day.
DDM London correspondent promised to bring updates of the event as they unfold.
