Ahmed Makarfi has stepped down as Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees (BoT), citing the party’s zoning principles.
In his resignation letter, Makarfi explained that with Kabiru Turaki, also from the North-West, elected as PDP’s national chairman, it’s necessary to give Turaki space and avoid imbalance in the party’s leadership.
Makarfi, a former Kaduna State Governor, had previously attempted to resign but was urged to stay on until after the party’s convention.
He emphasized his commitment to party unity and internal equity, stating that having the national chairman and secretary from the same geopolitical zone would violate the party’s zoning formula.
“I hereby formally resign as secretary of the board of trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party with effect from today, November 17, 2025,” Makarfi stated, thanking BoT Chairman Adolphus Wabara and fellow members for their support and harmonious working relationship.
