(DDM) – A new survey by Time Out has revealed the world’s best cities for Generation Z to live in, highlighting factors such as affordability, culture, inclusivity, and lifestyle opportunities.

DDM gathered that the survey, which involved over 18,500 respondents under the age of 30, ranked cities globally based on quality of life and appeal to young people seeking creative and social opportunities.

Bangkok, Thailand, claimed the top spot, praised for its low cost of living, vibrant street culture, and ease of social interaction, making it a favorite destination for young residents seeking affordability and a lively lifestyle.

Melbourne, Australia, ranked second globally, recognized for its cultural vibrancy, arts scene, inclusivity, and high quality of life. Young residents describe the city as diverse, creative, and supportive of self-expression.

Cape Town, South Africa, emerged as the leading African city for Gen Z, ranking third worldwide. Respondents cited the city’s natural beauty, dynamic social life, and relative affordability as major draws.

New York City in the United States ranked fourth, noted for its nightlife, entertainment, and walkability, though high living costs remain a challenge for many young residents.

Copenhagen, Denmark, was highlighted for happiness, liveability, and balance, with bike-friendly streets and strong social systems contributing to an appealing urban environment for Gen Z.

Barcelona, Spain, earned recognition for diversity, inclusiveness, and coastal lifestyle, attracting young people with its creative energy and vibrant social scene.

Edinburgh, United Kingdom, was praised for its scenic green spaces and walkability, allowing residents to enjoy a city closely connected to nature while maintaining accessibility to urban amenities.

Mexico City, Mexico, combined affordability with cultural vibrancy, scoring high for cost of living, everyday excitement, and opportunities for social and creative engagement.

London, United Kingdom, despite high living costs, remained popular among young residents for its cultural offerings, food diversity, free museums, and thriving creative scene.

Shanghai, China, completed the top ten list, lauded for modern infrastructure, efficient public transport, and excellent connectivity, making it an appealing city for Gen Z looking for convenience and innovation.

Experts say these rankings reflect a shift in Gen Z priorities, where lifestyle, social engagement, and cultural access often outweigh purely economic considerations when choosing where to live.

The survey underscores a global trend of young people valuing inclusivity, creativity, and sustainability in urban living, shaping the future of city development worldwide.
