Peter Obi May Not Be the Only High-Profile Figure Rumoured to Exit ADC as Gbandi’s Camp Keeps Silent

DELTA STATE – Speculations within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) appear to be widening, as fresh indications suggest that former ADC Deputy National Chairman and diaspora leader, Hon. (Dr.) Kenneth Chibuogwu Gbandi, may be considering his resignation from the party following extensive consultations at home and abroad.

While recent political discussions have focused heavily on rumours surrounding Peter Obi’s possible exit from the ADC, emerging conversations within legacy party circles suggest that PO may not be the only high-profile figure quietly reassessing his continued membership of the party.

Sources close to ADC legacy stakeholders say the growing unease of Gbandi Camp may be connected to the removal of the ADC Diaspora Network from the party’s current constitution, the alleged marginalisation of legacy members, and unresolved leadership questions at both national and state levels.

The speculation gained further traction after a recent meeting of ADC legacy members, aspirants, and friends of the coalition, where participants reportedly emphasized inclusion, due process, internal democracy, and respect for the foundational structures that helped sustain the party over the years.

For many within the legacy bloc, the concern is not merely about political positioning, but about whether the ADC still reflects the original DNA of openness, equity, reform, and grassroots participation. The ADC Diaspora Network, often described by its promoters as the party’s “7th Zone,” had long been viewed as a strategic platform for diaspora engagement, policy influence, fundraising, and global visibility.

Those familiar with Gbandi’s political journey argue that any possible resignation would not be impulsive, but the outcome of a principled review of the party’s direction. As a long-standing diaspora stakeholder, former ADC Deputy National Chairman, and one of the visible advocates for diaspora political inclusion, Gbandi has consistently spoken about due process, institutional accountability, and the need to protect legacy structures from political erosion.

If this depreciation is confirmed, Gbandi’s exit would mark a significant symbolic setback for the ADC, especially among diaspora-aligned members and legacy stakeholders who believe the party’s strength lies in inclusion, reform, and internal democracy.

For now, neither Gbandi nor his political associates have issued a formal public statement confirming the rumoured resignation. However, the tone of recent consultations and the language emerging from the legacy group suggest that a major political realignment may be underway.

What remains clear is that the ADC’s internal cohesion will be tested in the coming days. Whether the rumours surrounding Peter Obi, Gbandi, and other high-profile figures materialize or not, the message from the legacy wing appears unmistakable: inclusion, due process, and respect for founding structures must remain central to the future of any credible democratic platform.
