MAIDUGURI — The Governor of Borno State, Babagana Umara Zulum, has assured parents and residents that intensified efforts are underway to secure the safe return of 48 schoolchildren abducted in the recent attack on Mussa community.
The governor gave the assurance while addressing concerns raised by families of the victims and community leaders following the incident that has sparked renewed fears over insecurity in parts of the state.
He stated that government authorities, in collaboration with security agencies, are working around the clock to locate and rescue the abducted children safely.
The abduction reportedly occurred in Mussa community, an area that has experienced repeated security challenges linked to armed groups operating in parts of northern Nigeria.
Zulum emphasized that the safety of the children remains a top priority for both the state government and security formations deployed in the region.
He also urged residents to remain calm and support ongoing security operations by providing useful information that could assist rescue efforts.
Security officials have intensified surveillance and search operations across possible escape routes and suspected hideouts linked to criminal elements in the region.
The latest incident has renewed national concern over school safety in conflict-affected areas, where attacks on educational institutions have disrupted learning and displaced communities in recent years.
Analysts note that the kidnapping of schoolchildren has remained one of the most troubling security challenges in parts of northern Nigeria, requiring coordinated military, intelligence, and community-based responses.
Observers say sustained rescue operations often depend on timely intelligence, strong inter-agency coordination, and cooperation from local communities familiar with terrain and movements in affected areas.
The Borno State government has consistently maintained that it is committed to restoring stability and ensuring that displaced families and abducted victims are safely reunited with their communities.
Zulum’s administration has also continued to invest in rebuilding efforts, including resettlement programs, reconstruction of damaged infrastructure, and support for affected populations.
Security stakeholders argue that addressing the root causes of insecurity remains essential to preventing future incidents and ensuring long-term stability in vulnerable communities.
As search efforts continue, attention remains focused on the safe recovery of the 48 abducted schoolchildren and the broader efforts to strengthen security across the region.
