Failed flee attempt: Bobrisky arrested and remanded in custody

Cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, was arrested and remanded in Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) annex, Alagbon on Monday night.

According to reports, Bobrisky was apprehended by the Nigerian Immigration Service personnel while he attempted to abscond from the country through Seme Border at 1:30 am midnight.

After being arrested at the Seme border, Bobrisky was taken to the FCID by NIS since Monday night.

There were also hints that he would be held overnight on Tuesday so that investigators could look into his arrest.

Reports disclosed that the FCID would be placed on remand for his custody.

Sources at the FCID said: “Yes, he was brought here yesterday night (Monday) by the NIS, where he spent the night.

“We are going to get a remand today”, the source added.

 

Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) response to the development

NIS also broke silence on the arrest of the convicted cross-dresser.

According to NIS spokesman Mr. Kenneth Udo, he revealed that Bobrisky was detained yesterday at the Seme Border.

This was during Bobrisky’s attempt to leave the country as reported.

He described the cross dresser as a “person of interest”.

He said: “In keeping with its commitment to securing the borders, NIS intercepted Okuneye otherwise known as Bobrisky at the Seme Border over an attempt to exit the country.

“The Service wishes to inform the public that Okuneye is a person of interest over recent issues of public concern.

“He is undergoing interrogation and will be handed over to the appropriate authorities for further action.

“The Service assures the public that it will continue to be civil and professional in its statutory responsibility of manning the country’s borders”.

 

Martins Vincent Otse claim

Mr. Martins Vincent Otse, also known as Verydarkman, had previously claimed that Bobrisky attempted to elude.

Mr. Otse disclosed that Bobrisky attempt to elude House of Representatives probe was the reason behind his detention by NIS.

Otse had been asked to respond to questions on the widely circulated audio recordings that were leaked.

Bobrisky allegedly acknowledged paying jail authorities in order to avoid being imprisoned in this leaked recordings.

Additionally, the tapes linked Bobrisky to a money laundering case that the EFCC purportedly dismissed.

“Bobrisky was arrested this morning at the Seme border while trying to enter the Benin Republic to escape the current investigation by the House of Reps.

“He is allegedly being held by Nigerian immigration.

“Let’s wait for Bob to debunk this”, Otse said.

 

How Bobrisky attempted to cross border at midnight – Witnesses

According to witnesses, Bobrisky drove a black SUV Mercedes Benz to the border post’s departure axis on Monday.

This was reported to have occurred around 1:30 A.M.

The reports claim that the on-duty Port Health officers initially halted Bobrisky.

But the motorist continued to drive until he reached the Immigration gate.

“Idris handed over his passport to the driver for stamping at the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) post.

“The immigration surveillance officer, identified as Yusuf, while going through the passport, detected that the person inside the vehicle was Bobrisky.

“He called the most senior officer on duty to the scene, and they secretly invited the Controller of Immigration, Seme Command, Mr. Muhammad Adamu.

“The surveillance officer then went back to invite Bobrisky for capture to stamp the passport.

“On getting to the surveillance unit for capturing, he was taken to the controller’s office for questioning”, a source disclosed.

 

According to a different source who spoke to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Bobrisky’s attorney later visited Seme.

His attorney reportedly came to ask why the immigration command staff had detained him.

“Bobrisky stayed inside the controller’s office until 4.00 P.M. when he was taken to Lagos State Command of NIS for further investigation”, the second source said.
