Country music icon Shania Twain is set to have her extraordinary life story brought to the big screen, as Sony Pictures officially announces a new biographical film titled Shania.

The project will be written and directed by Leah McKendrick, with Twain herself serving as a producer alongside Amie Karp. The film is expected to chronicle the singer’s inspiring journey from humble beginnings to global superstardom.

McKendrick, who gained recognition for her 2023 film Scrambled and the upcoming Netflix romantic comedy Voicemails for Isabelle, expressed deep excitement about taking on the project. Drawing from her own background as a pop singer-songwriter, she described the opportunity as both personal and surreal.

“Long before I was making movies, I was shooting Shania music videos in my bedroom. This wild-hearted force of a woman means so much to me and the world. It is a surreal dream come true to get to bring her trailblazing, gut-punching, awe-inspiring story to the screen. I am honoured. I am humbled. I am READY. Let’s go, girls,” she shared.

Although specific plot details remain under wraps, Twain’s life offers rich material for a compelling film. From her early days in Windsor, Ontario, to becoming one of the best-selling female artists in country music history during the 1990s, her journey is marked by resilience, reinvention, and global success.

Her catalogue includes some of the most iconic songs in modern country and pop music, such as Man! I Feel Like a Woman!, That Don’t Impress Me Much, You’re Still the One, and Up! tracks that have defined generations and cemented her legacy as a trailblazer.

The biopic announcement comes at an exciting time for the 60-year-old superstar, who is also preparing to release her seventh studio album, Little Miss Twain, next month. Speaking at her Rose Ceremony in May, Twain revealed that the upcoming album reflects deeply on her childhood and upbringing, offering fans a more intimate glimpse into her life.
