VANCOUVER, Canada — The United States and Germany are on track to complete perfect World Cup group stage campaigns, while the Netherlands and Japan are also poised to secure their places in the knockout rounds as the tournament enters its decisive final group matches.

The United States, co-hosts of the 2026 World Cup, have been in scintillating form, winning both of their opening Group D matches. The Americans secured a dominant 4-1 victory over Paraguay in their opener, followed by a hard-fought win against Turkey to top the group with six points. With one match remaining against New Zealand, the USMNT needs just a draw to secure top spot, but coach Mauricio Pochettino’s side will be aiming for a perfect record to carry momentum into the knockout stage.

Germany have also been imperious in Group H, winning their first two matches against Japan and Saudi Arabia. The four-time world champions have scored seven goals and conceded just one, demonstrating their credentials as serious title contenders. A final group match against Costa Rica offers the Germans an opportunity to complete a perfect group stage and send a warning to their rivals.

The Netherlands, who produced a stunning 5-1 victory over Sweden in their opener, have also impressed with their attacking firepower. Cody Gakpo and Brian Brobbey have formed a formidable partnership, and the Dutch are heavily favored to progress from Group E. A clash against Denmark will determine whether they finish top of the group, but their place in the last 32 is all but secured.

Japan, who reached the quarterfinals of the 2022 World Cup, have also been impressive in Group G, sitting on four points after a 0-0 draw with Iran and a 2-1 victory over New Zealand. The Samurai Blue face Egypt in their final group match, with a win securing their place in the knockouts and potentially top spot in the group.

The race for the Golden Boot remains wide open, with Lionel Messi leading the scoring charts with three goals, followed by a crowded field of 18 players on two goals, including the USA’s Folarin Balogun. The American striker has already made history by becoming the first US player to score multiple goals in a World Cup match since 1930.

The USA, Germany, and Netherlands are all expected to make deep runs in the tournament, with their group-stage dominance confirming their status as contenders. The Dutch, in particular, have attracted attention with their attacking style and could be the dark horses of the tournament.

As the group stage concludes, the knockout bracket is beginning to take shape, with several high-profile matches expected in the last 32. The USA will be looking to maintain their momentum, while Germany aims for a record-extending fifth World Cup title. The Netherlands, seeking their first title, have the quality to go all the way if they can maintain their current form.

With goals flowing and teams finding their rhythm, the 2026 World Cup is building towards an exciting climax. The knockout stage promises intense matchups, and the race for the Golden Boot adds an extra layer of intrigue. For now, the USA, Germany, and the Netherlands are setting the pace—but as history has shown, the World Cup is rarely predictable.
