LAGOS, Nigeria — Nollywood actor and political commentator Kenneth Okonkwo has alleged that Peter Obi betrayed him, while stating that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar recognised his value, amid an ongoing defamation lawsuit and political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections.

Okonkwo made the claims in a recent statement that has generated significant attention across political and entertainment circles. The actor, who was a prominent supporter of Peter Obi during the 2023 presidential election, appears to have shifted his political allegiance following what he described as personal betrayal.

According to Okonkwo, Obi’s actions toward him were disappointing, although he did not provide specific details about the nature of the betrayal. He contrasted this with his experience with Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), whom he said appreciated his contributions and recognised his potential.

“I have always been committed to the cause of a better Nigeria, but along the way, I have seen who truly values my contributions,” Okonkwo was quoted as saying. “Peter Obi betrayed me, but Atiku saw value in me.”

Okonkwo has been a vocal figure in Nigerian politics, leveraging his platform as a celebrity to advocate for good governance and political accountability. His decision to align with Atiku represents a significant shift, given his previous support for Obi, who remains a formidable opposition figure.
