Pete Davidson has opened up about his high-profile relationship with Kim Kardashian, revealing that while he had a positive experience with her and her family, the intense lifestyle that came with dating one of the world’s most recognizable families eventually became difficult for him.
Davidson discussed his relationship with Kardashian while reflecting on what it was like to date into the Kardashian family and deal with the level of public attention surrounding their lives.
Joking about men who have dated members of the famous family, Davidson described himself as one of the “survivors,” comparing the experience to being part of an elite group.
“I’m one of the survivors — the few and the proud. We’re like the Marines,” he joked.
Despite the challenges, Davidson said he admired the way Kardashian and her family openly embraced their reality television lifestyle. He explained that he found their straightforward approach attractive and mature.
“Look, man, that’s a really tough atmosphere if you’re not game. One of the things I love about Kim and that whole family is they’re like, ‘This is what we do.’ I found that very attractive and mature,” he said.
Davidson also made it clear that he did not feel pressured by Kardashian to participate in anything involving her public life that he was uncomfortable with.
“And I was never subjected to anything I didn’t want to be a part of. She was super respectful of all of it,” he explained.
However, the comedian and actor said the constant attention surrounding the relationship eventually became overwhelming.
According to Davidson, being followed by photographers, having security around him and constantly being conscious of people watching his every move proved particularly difficult.
“But the craze of that lifestyle — being followed everywhere, having security and looking over your shoulder — for a guy with mental stuff, and at the time drug problems, was a little too much for me,” he said.
Davidson was candid about the personal challenges he was dealing with during that period, explaining that the pressures surrounding the relationship were difficult to separate from what he was experiencing privately at the time.
Despite the eventual end of their relationship, Davidson emphasized that there is no lingering hostility between them.
“But we’re cool, and I have a lot of love for her, and I knew what I was getting into,” he said.
