Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will not win Rivers State in the 2027 elections.
Wike made the statement on Saturday while addressing members of Uzugbani Ekpeye in Ahoada, Rivers State.
The former Rivers State governor also criticised the ADC vice-presidential candidate, Rotimi Amaechi, over his repeated claims that election results had been manipulated against him.
Wike said Amaechi had failed to win elections in the state since 2011 despite holding influential political positions.
He recalled that he served as Director-General of Amaechi’s 2011 campaign and argued that subsequent election results did not support Amaechi’s claims of electoral manipulation.
Wike said Amaechi could not produce a successor as governor in 2015, despite serving as governor between 2007 and 2015.
He also referenced the 2019 presidential election, when Amaechi served as Director-General of the campaign for former President Muhammadu Buhari, and the 2023 election, when Amaechi supported Atiku Abubakar.
Wike said Amaechi’s failure to secure victory in those elections could not continually be attributed to alleged manipulation of results.
He told the gathering that the same outcome would occur in 2027, saying Amaechi would not win the election in Rivers State.
Wike also urged the Ekpeye people to assess the records and past performances of political candidates before making decisions on future elections.
The President-General of Uzugbani Ekpeye, Dr Alabo Ihuowo, praised Wike for what he described as his contributions to the development of Ekpeye communities during his tenure as governor.
Ihuowo cited projects including the Ahoada Campus of Rivers State University, road construction, expansion of Ahoada Zonal Hospital and the provision of water and electricity to Oyobu community.
