Okada: Enugu commercial motorcyclists to pay N146k tax in 2025

Under the newly approved tax regime in Enugu State, market traders including water vendors, small traders, and street shop owners will now be required to pay N36,000 annually in taxes to the state government.

In a significant update for commercial transport operators, “Okada” (commercial motorcyclists) riders will be taxed N146,000, while taxi drivers will face a tax of N164,250 in 2025. The new tax structure was approved by Mr. Emmanuel Ekene Nnamani, the Executive Chairman of the Enugu State Internal Revenue Service.

The tax regime, obtained also reveals the following annual tax rates for other vehicle operators: tricycle drivers will pay N200,750, mini bus/small dyna operators will pay N219,000, and operators of 14-seater, 18-seater, big dyna, and pickup vans will now be taxed N237,250 annually.

Sienna and water tankers will be paying N237,250 and N346,750 respectively. Miner’s ticket – N1,095,000; Trucks (608, 814, 911, 6-10 tyres) without produce/ product – N985,500; Trailer without produce/product – N1,204,500.

Bus/Others with produce/products – N1,277,500; 911/truck/trailer with produce/products 6-14 tyres – N1,460,000 and Trailer/Trucks with produce/ products- 16 tyres above will now pay N1,642,500.

The new tax regime according to the approved document started from yesterday January 1, 2025. The taxes will be paid on daily basis through E-TICKET.

According to the daily chart, Okada riders will be paying N400 daily; Taxi drivers N450; while Tricycle will be paying N550

It was reported that the listed taxes are not the only payments made by the group in the state. For example, drivers belong to unions such as the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), and the Tricycle Association. In addition to the taxes, they also pay fees for the parks where they load passengers and compensate the loaders.
