New York judge sets Trump sentencing days before inauguration.

In a shocking development, New York judge has set the sentencing date for former President Donald Trump, just days before his inauguration.

On Friday, a New York judge denied President-elect Donald Trump’s attempt to overturn his conviction in the criminal hush money case.

The judge, Juan Merchan, rejected Trump’s request to vacate the verdict, which was based on the Supreme Court’s decision regarding presidential immunity.

Trump’s legal team had hoped the ruling would lead to the reversal of the conviction, but Merchan disagreed with their argument.

With the appeal denied, Trump’s sentencing is now scheduled for January 10, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. In this upcoming hearing, the president-elect has the option to appear either in person or virtually.

However, Judge Merchan made it clear that he will not sentence Trump to prison time. Instead, Merchan indicated that he is unlikely to impose any form of incarceration and is instead considering a sentence of “unconditional discharge”.

An unconditional discharge would mean no punishment is handed down. In other words, no prison sentence likely for President-Elect Trump but this might be a deterrence to his 2nd tenure ambition.

Trump’s Spokesman has criticized Judge Merchan’s Ruling, denouncing the Case as lawless.

In a public statement online, Trump spokesman and incoming White House Communications Director, Steven Cheung, sharply criticized Acting Justice Juan Merchan’s ruling in the Manhattan District Attorney’s case, calling it a direct violation of the Supreme Court’s immunity decision and other longstanding legal precedents.

Cheung argued that the case against President-elect Trump was politically motivated and should never have been brought to court. He stated,

“This lawless case should have never been brought, and the Constitution demands that it be immediately dismissed,” Cheung stated.

He went on to assert that the presidential transition process must proceed without interference, urging that Trump be allowed to carry out his duties as the incoming president without being obstructed by what he described as the “remains of this or any remnants of the Witch Hunts.”

Cheung made clear that Trump intends to continue fighting against what he referred to as “hoaxes” until they are all dead.
