Hon. IG Amaechi Okoro, Media Head of coalition for the protection of democracy (COPDEM) in Delta State, has rejected Salihu Moh’ Lukman’s call for Peter Obi to step down.

Lukman, a former APC National Working Committee (NWC) member, urged key political figures to abandon their 2027 presidential ambitions.

According to the information made available to Diaspora digital media (DDM) in his statement titled “Re: Early Outline of the Permutations for 2027,” he called for a new political platform.

He asked former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and others to focus on party-building.

He argued that stepping aside would prevent candidate imposition and create a stronger political alternative for the 2027 elections.

Lukman stated that Nigeria’s political system needed restructuring to ensure better governance and credible leadership in the future.

However, Hon. Amaechi Okoro swiftly dismissed Lukman’s call, insisting Peter Obi remains the best choice to lead Nigeria.

He emphasized that Nigeria’s problem is not the number of political parties but the quality of leadership.

According to him, Obi represents competence, transparency, and economic expertise, which are crucial for Nigeria’s restoration.

Okoro pointed out that Obi’s leadership style is based on accountability, fiscal discipline, and people-oriented governance.

He noted that the 2023 elections showed a significant shift in public consciousness toward Obi’s vision for Nigeria.

“The level of support Peter Obi received in 2023 demonstrated that Nigerians are ready for a new leadership direction,” Okoro stated.

He argued that instead of urging Obi to step aside, Nigerians should rally behind him for good governance.

Okoro criticized the idea that forming a new political party is the solution to Nigeria’s leadership crisis.

“Rather than creating unnecessary political distractions, we should consolidate efforts to ensure the right leadership emerges in 2027,” he added.

He described Peter Obi as a leader whose governance, economic management, and public service record speak for themselves.

Okoro highlighted Obi’s achievements as Anambra State governor, focusing on prudent resource management and infrastructural development.

He noted that Obi left behind a healthy state economy, improved education, and better healthcare services without accumulating debt.

“These are the qualities that Nigeria desperately needs at this moment,” Okoro emphasized.

He called on Nigerians to reject attempts to discourage Peter Obi from contesting the 2027 election.

Okoro stated that 2027 presents an opportunity to reset Nigeria’s governance and move towards sustainable development.

He urged Nigerians, civil society organizations, and youth groups to support a leader who prioritizes national interest.

He warned against political maneuvers aimed at sidelining credible candidates through party restructuring.

“The people must remain vigilant to ensure Nigeria does not fall into the hands of visionless politicians,” Okoro said.

He argued that those asking Obi to step aside fear his growing influence and the demand for change.

According to Okoro, the push for a new political platform is a strategy to weaken credible candidates, party like ADC have solved that problem

He urged Obi’s supporters to remain steadfast and continue spreading the message of hope and good governance.

Okoro reaffirmed that Peter Obi remains the best choice for 2027 and should not be counted out.
