Kenya wins ECOWAS-Abuja Marathon

At the ECOWAS-Abuja Marathon, an international event, held on Saturday morning in Abuja, Wanjiru won the 21km race, securing a cash prize of $10,000 for his performance.

The Kenyans are the kings of marathon, no doubt, and Kenyan athlete, Harrison Wanjiru, emerged winner of the Third ECOWAS-Abuja International Marathon.

The marathon, which attracted participants from various countries, showcased some of the best long-distance runners from Africa and beyond.

Wanjiru’s victory emphasized his status as one of Africa’s top competitors in the sport, further enhancing his reputation on the international stage.

But Nigeria was able to get victories in the shorter distance events.

In the shorter 5km events, Sunday Dagyan and Vivian Obadiah, both from Plateau State, claimed victory in the male and female categories, respectively.

Each winner received a cash prize of $1,000, celebrating their exceptional speed and endurance.

The ECOWAS-Abuja Marathon is an annual sporting event organized by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to promote regional integration and unity among its member states.

The marathon aims to bring people together, using sports as a mobilizing tool to foster cooperation and solidarity among West African countries.

This year’s event, is the third edition.

The ECOWAS-Abuja Marathon is part of ECOWAS’s broader efforts to promote economic integration, peace, and stability in the West African region.

By hosting this event, ECOWAS aims to showcase the region’s rich cultural diversity and promote peple-to-people exchanges among member states.
