The first major silverware of the English football season is up for grabs as Liverpool and Newcastle United face off in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley Stadium on Sunday, 16 March 2025.

Liverpool will be without Trent Alexander-Arnold, who sustained an ankle injury in their midweek Champions League defeat to Paris Saint-Germain.

Conor Bradley and Joe Gomez are also sidelined, leaving manager Arne Slot with a dilemma at right-back.

Jarell Quansah, Wataru Endo, and even Curtis Jones are being considered for the role, while Kostas Tsimikas or Andy Robertson could also fill in.

Tyler Morton is out with a shoulder injury, while Ibrahima Konate is a doubt after picking up a knock against PSG but is expected to feature.

Slot faces a decision between Caoimhin Kelleher and Alisson in goal, with Kelleher having played most of Liverpool’s Carabao Cup matches this season.

Cody Gakpo, who returned from injury as a substitute midweek, is likely to start.

Newcastle will be without Anthony Gordon, who is suspended after being sent off in their FA Cup defeat to Brighton.

Lewis Hall is out for the season, while Jamaal Lascelles and Sven Botman are also absent in defense.

Tino Livramento or Kieran Trippier will replace Hall, and Harvey Barnes is expected to fill Gordon’s void on the wing.
